The Indians traveled to St. James on Monday for a non-conference matchup. This game was for sure a pitching battle. Dylan K was the losing pitcher lasting 6 ⅔ innings and striking out 10. The game was scoreless until the fifth inning. Sam T was on second base and Dylan K laced a single up the middle for the Indians to score the first run of the game. Sam T was 2 for 3 with a walk. Dylan K had a no hitter going until 1 out in the sixth. It all went downhill from there. St. James ended up scoring two runs in the seventh to win the game. The Indians will be home on Thursday, May 19th in a make-up game versus Cedar Mountain/Comfrey.

My Last Week of High School

This is my last week of high school and some may say that it is a bittersweet moment, but I am very excited. I can not wait to see what I, and my other classmates, grow up to be. In the last twelve years, I have made some great memories here, and maybe some not so great memories. Next year I will be attending South Dakota State University to study business economics. My junior year, I had On The Job Training at Chuck Spaeth Ford as a salesman in Sleepy Eye. I loved everything they did and that inspired me to go to college to be a salesman; that and my dad is a salesman. I loved the company that I was working for so I decided to go back to detail and learn how the company works. During 2nd semester, I worked in detail and cleaning cars, and in August I got a part time job working as a detailer. This summer, I will now be working up in the front offices doing different types of jobs on the computer. I hope to go to college and move back to Sleepy Eye to settle here and be a salesman.

NHL Playoffs

The NHL playoffs are coming to an end and there is a very good competition, with the St Louis Blues vs San Jose Sharks and then the Pittsburgh Penguins vs Tampa Bay Lightning. The Tampa Bay Lightning are leading the series against Pittsburgh Penguins 1-0, and the St Louis Blues are leading the series against the San Jose Sharks 1-0. The Tampa Bay Lightning and Pittsburgh Penguins play again tonight.
My predictions are that the Tampa Bay Lightning will win their series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. I also think that the St Louis Blues will win their series against the San Jose Sharks. I think the Tampa Bay Lightning will win the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

JV Baseball Tournament

This past Saturday, the JV baseball team played in a tournament. We started off the day playing New Ulm Cathedral. We played them earlier in the season and tied in a 1-1 game. This game started the same with them answering with two runs to tie the game. After that, we started to pull ahead and won 7-4 in an exciting game. With one game down, we had to wait until 2:00 for the next one. Our next matchup was against St. Mary’s. We beat them twice already and hoped to do it again. From the start we were bringing in runs. We had good pitching to stop them from getting many people on base. We won the game 12-4 and beat St. Mary’s for the third time this year.

Social Media Pictures
With recent events in other schools, I'll be discussing the legality of giving alcohol violations from pictures. Many schools have alcohol policies regarding consumption by minors with penalties range from academic probation to community service. Many of these violations occur when parties are busted and Minor Consumptions are handed out. In order to get a "minor" you must be caught by cops and then have a blood alcohol level above 0.00. This is not the case with pictures, all it takes is one picture with no context to get you in trouble with your school. This rule seems unfair because months later someone could find a picture and submit it to the Athletic Director to get them in trouble. When there is a party getting busted, they know the context and such. A picture has no context and no expiration date.
From the people I talked to, they said they are okay with it. They say if you're stupid enough to post pictures or let people post pictures you should face the consequences. Many students agree that having pictures with alcohol is enough to get you in trouble. They say drinking alcohol underaged is inherently risky and being photographed is part of the risk.
Some beg to differ, though, saying pictures should not be enough to get you in trouble. They stated that there isn't enough context in a picture to make decisions regarding punishment. It has been stated that having alcohol in the picture should not be instant guilt, but having it in your hand should. Another argument against alcohol pictures is someone can get someone in trouble with pictures taken months ago. People against pictures getting you in trouble cite that the Athletic Director should leave the detective work to the professionals which means let the cops decide who gets a minor and punish them from there.

Does Hillary Deserve to be President?

Does Hillary Clinton deserve to be President or is it just because she's the only real option left in the presidential race? Donald Trump is the only Republican candidate left so obviously he is going to be running against the Democratic nominee. Bernie Sanders doesn’t really seem to be a match for Hillary so from the way it looks, Hillary is going to be the Democratic nominee. National polls show that in the national election Hillary leads by a large margin, and a lot of Republican voters are planning to vote Democrat just so Trump doesn’t become president. So does Hillary really deserve this chance to be President?

Spanish Play

On May 17th, our group has to do a play in spanish on Snow White. We have been preparing our play since Monday and will continue through next week. There is seven people in the play including us. We have been creating backdrops and collecting props. We will have to memorize our lines which will be the most difficult part. We hope to see all of you there.

JV vs. Cathedral

Last Thursday, the JV baseball tied against New Ulm Cathedral. The game ended 1-1 in the ninth inning. The game was ended because the JH had to play after us. From the start of the game, the offensive power was not there. Luckily, we had strong defense to hold them off. We had strong pitching from Andrew R. In the top of the 6th, we finally scored a run. In the bottom of the seventh, our defense slacked and they scored to tie. In extras, the hitting was still not there. Our defense allowed us to keep the game tied which let us have another chance at the plate. After the ninth, it was still tied and the coaches decided to call it. With us tying, our record is now 8-0-1.

Was prom a success?

Prom was a pretty good time and it looked amazing. The decorations for prom looked very nice and the confetti cannon was awesome. The DJ was playing some very good songs and they were fun to dance to. After the dance was over, most of the people that were at the dance went to the after party. At the after party, there was an obstacle course, corn hole, jenga, and a hypnotist. Some of the prizes were pretty cool also. In my opinion, prom was very successful this year.

The Sleepy Eye United golf team was ranked number four in Class 1A rankings in the State of Minnesota! Our team has currently dropped a rank to put us in fifth place now, but the season is still young and we hope to move up in the rankings! When our team was in fourth place, we had three players in the top ten including Ben Laffen in seventh, Andrew Neid in ninth, and Caleb Christensen in tenth. Since the golf rankings were updated this last week those rankings have changed having Ben Laffen moving up to sixth place and Caleb Christensen moving up to ninth place! There will be more updates to follow the Sleepy Eye United golf team so stay tuned!

I’m excited for summer because I can hangout with friends, go fishing, and have fires. Another reason why I am excited is I can not wait to be done with school. School this year is really stressing me out, and I'm excited to be able to just relax by the beach and go skateboarding. I’m also very excited to be able to go fishing all day and just have fun.

Are You Excited for Prom?

Prom for Sleepy Eye Public School is this weekend (April 30th). The students are excited to dress up and have a night of fun. With the Grand March starting at 8 P.M. the kids are planning on taking pictures together at various places in New Ulm Minnesota at 1, then going to eat as a group at the country club. After the Grand March and the dance, the after prom party starts. This should be a lot of fun with games and activities. When that is over there will be prizes. Prom this year should be a blast.

All-Star Tennis Man

Stephan Badenhorst, who is originally from South Africa, lived in a straw hut with no heat or sanitary water. He moved to Sleepy Eye, Minnesota last year; He played football and baseball his junior year. He continued his football career to his senior year, but he was injured in the middle of the season. He then found his true calling… TENNIS! He decided to go out for the New Ulm High School boys’ tennis team. He moved up quickly, becoming number 1 for NUHS singles team. He currently has 5 wins and only 1 loss. He says his strength is his serve, but ironically, his weakness is his second serve. He has been playing tennis for 11 years, but missed a year due to him moving to Sleepy Eye. He is recovering and getting back into shape for his first and final season. He loves tennis and loves the competitiveness of the sport. He hopes to keep doing well.

Doodle Buddy - You can paint, draw, scribble, and sketch. It was a drawing app that I always used when I was bored.
Voxer - It’s a walkie talkie messenger app. My friends and I used this everyday instead of texting or anything else. It was one of the best apps for my friends and I.
Split pic - Photo collage maker. I used this to edit my photos or just make them look cool. I loved this editing app.
Super Stickman Golf - It’s a fun golf game that I always love to play, and if I still had it I would play it.

On Monday the 25th, the section seedings came out for varsity baseball, and right now the Indians are ranked first in their section out of fifteen teams. Today, Tuesday the 26th, the Indians face the Springfield Tigers at 7:00 in Springfield. The Tigers are ranked 2nd so it is neck and neck with them. The first time the Indians played the Tigers the Indians won, tonight they will go for the sweep.

Golf Update

Currently our golf team is undefeated, and we have had four golf meets including a Conference event in New Ulm. The Sleepy Eye boys posted a very good score of 318 using a 72 from Ben L, 80 from Caleb C, 81 from Andrew N, and 85 from Ryan H. In the standings for All-Conference, those are currently the standings from first to fourth! Stay tuned for further updates on the season!
