Ah...October. My favorite month. My favorite time of year. The chill of the air as you take your first step outside, making you realize that today is definitely the day to wear that comfy hoodie you have shoved to the back of your closet. Watching as the leaves change into vibrant pretty colors as they die off and fall to the ground. The satisfactory crunch it gives when you happen to step on one as you’re making your way downtown, walking fast.
As Halloween approached, I see decorations outside of people’s houses as I pass the streets of Sleepy Eye and New Ulm. There are luminous lights in all sorts of colors, “scary” decorations such as witches or ghosts, and lots of bright orange pumpkins. Even I have a single pumpkin outside of my house. I’m thinking about decorating it later on, but I probably will not end up doing it. I am terrible at pumpkin carving.
On the topic of Halloween coming up, I’m starting to see more of my favorite Halloween-themed movies. Most of them being those cheesy old Disney Halloween movies such as the many Halloweentown movies, Twitches, Tower of Terror, Hocus Pocus, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. One of my favorites being Hocus Pocus. You know, that movie about those three ditzy witches who absorb children’s life force to gain youth. It seems like kind of a morbid concept now that I think about it, but the movie itself is pretty funny. It’s classic 1993 really. Though actually, I enjoy all of those movies I just mentioned now that I think back on it. I just really love Halloween movies.
The most awesome part of Halloween is getting candy. I’m pretty sure I’m way past that age where it’s still socially acceptable to go trick-or-treating. That doesn’t mean I won’t try to smuggle candy from my unsuspecting neighbors. (or you know, eat the candy out of the bowl that we pass out to trick or treaters) I’m not even a big candy fan, but I do enjoy it during Halloween.
I really can’t wait for Halloween! I can’t believe it’s only but a week away. I need to start getting my Halloween costume ready. I still have yet to think of what it’s going to be, but I’m sure it’ll come to me some time.
