Chernobyl

By Donovan W

A catastrophic nuclear accident occurred on the 26th of April, 1986. It was at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. This caused pollution in the soil, water, and air in the area. It released so much radiation, 400 times the amount of one of the nuclear bombs, Little Boy or Fat Man. There is at least 200 tons of lava-like nuclear material called the Elephant’s Foot. There is no possible way of going near it, or even looking at it directly. The only way you can look at it is with a camera taking a picture through a mirror. You can only take so much radiation because each person could only take 500 rousens per five hours while the Elephant’s Foot would release 10,000 rousens in an hour which would kill you in a matter of seconds. Mutations to livestock occurred after the blast causing dipygus. Dipygus is the mutation of having extra lower limbs. All of Chernobyl is in a No Zone of 1,000 square miles.
