Beginning of the End

By Savanna Christensen

For those of you who do not know, I am a senior this year. Today in advisory a man talked to the whole class about ordering our caps and gowns for graduation. It really drives home just how close we are getting to the end. The end of high school, which is the only thing most of us have known for years. Soon we will be moving out and truly doing things for ourselves. Graduation is just the first step in this process. It’s just kind of weird to think that the goal we have been working towards for 13 years is finally about to end. That’s weird to think about too, that we started school when we were 5 or 6 with the starting of a long-term goal to graduate from school. I don’t like commitment and this was probably the only thing I’ve stuck with for over a year. Not like I had a choice or anything though. There is actually a law that states that children must begin a 13 year program and try to make it through. That’s all school is, isn’t it? A really long, mandatory, socially expected program to fill our brains to the bursting point? School doesn’t prepare you for life, I won’t use most of the stuff I learn here and it doesn’t prepare you for a career because you still have to go to college to get a good job. I guess it prepares you for college which makes it the first step on the road to a career. So, when you start school as a 5 or 6 year old, you are starting the process of finding a career. Seems intense if you ask me. Anyways, I have made it to another milestone.
