Last night the Sleepy Eye Indians girls basketball team won in overtime by one point against the Springfield Tigers. Sleepy Eye is the third seed and Springfield is the sixth seed. It was a close and intense game until the final buzzer. There was an awesome crowd turnout, and they were cheering throughout the whole game. Within the last few minutes of regulation time the score was back and forth, and no one was sure how the game was going to turn out. The Indians were ahead by two points with a few seconds to go when Theresa, a post from Springfield, scored a bunny, tying the score at sixty nine sixty nine putting the game into overtime. There was four minutes put on the clock for overtime. Each team kept going back and forth with the lead, and it was unpredictable who would come out on top. With 6.2 seconds on the clock and the score being tied at seventy four seventy four Sleepy Eye’s coach Ryan called a timeout and quickly drew up a play to get a shot off before the buzzer. The play did not go as planned, and the Indians had to quickly think of a different way to score. Justine got the ball and started to drive towards the basket as Claire set a screen for her. The whistle blew and the ref called a foul on white putting Claire on the line to shoot two free throws. There was now 2.4 seconds on the clock and the Indians needed just one more point to win the game. Claire scored her first free throw and missed the second. The Indians were now ahead by one point with a two seconds left, as Springfield brought up the ball the Indians made sure they didn’t get a shot off before the buzzer. When the final buzzer went off the Indians won by one.
