Paranormalcy ( by Kiersten White) follows the efforts of the International Paranormal Containment Agency (IPCA), a group tasked with policing various paranormal beings who live secretly among humans. The main character is Evie who has the power to see through paranormals who are disguised as humans. Evie works for the IPCA and wants nothing more than to be a normal teenager. Evie begins to realize that she can’t run away from the dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
I thought that the book started out interesting. Evie was strong in the beginning and she knew her way around a dangerous situation. As the book neared the middle of the story, it became too normal and dull for me.The book is supposed to be about paranormals and most of it consisted of prom and high school. There wasn’t any fighting or action and Evie was starting to be showed as weak. There is nothing more I hate than dull books with weak characters. Another thing I disliked about this book is that the dialogue was made for twelve year olds. Most of the words used were: seriously, totally and awesome. It was like a bad 90’s teen chick flick.
I would give this book a 3 out 5 stars. The book was way too dull for me and for a paranormal novel there was a lot of ‘normal’ involved. But if you enjoy books about high school and prom with a twist, go ahead and give it a shot.
