Vikings Lose Season Opener

By Jacob R & Caleb C

Adrian Peterson’s 78 yard touchdown and Blair Walsh’s 52 yard field goal were about the only good things the Vikings did Sunday in Detroit. On the first play for the Vikings offense, Adrian Peterson ran 78 yards for a touchdown. Then in the 3rd quarter, Blair Walsh kicked a 52 yard field goal to bring the Vikings within 3 points. But that’s as close as the Vikings would get because, late in the 4th quarter, Christian Ponder threw his 3rd interception of the game, ending the Viking’s hopes of a comeback. One other bright spot for the Vikings was wide receiver Jerome Simpson. He had 7 catches for 140 yards. New Viking Greg Jennings had 3 catches for 33 yards. Rookie Cordarrelle Patterson had 1 catch. Adrian Peterson ended with 93 yards and 2 touchdowns on 18 carries. Christian Ponder went 18/28 for 236 yards, 1 touchdown, and 3 interceptions.
The Lions played a good game. Quarterback Matthew Stafford had 28 completions on 43 pass attempts, 2 touchdowns, and one interception. Leading rusher, Reggie Bush, had 90 yards on 21 attempts. He also was the leading receiver with 101 yards on 4 receptions and a touchdown. Joseph Fauria had the other receiving touchdown. The Lions had 11 penalties for a total of 88 yards.
The Vikings are looking to improve before next game when they take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday in Chicago
