Jack Taylor, a junior basketball player at Division III Grinnell College, broke a NCAA record on November 20th of last year by scoring 138 points in a 179-104 victory over Faith Baptist Bible. On the one year anniversary of that game, he scored an amazing 109 points in a 173-123 home victory against Crossroads College. Following the Crossroads game, Taylor had just 3 points in the next game. He had no field goals, in fact. His points came from the charity stripe where he went 3 for 6. These high points come from a special type of playing style used by Grinnell. They try to shoot as many 3-pointers as possible. Also, they constantly have a full court man to man press and double team the ball handler in the half court because they would rather give up easy layups and have the chance to create turnovers off the double team. This style, though very different, is very effective for Grinnell. We will have to watch to see if this style continues to work for Grinnell.
