When I have free time, I like to go fishing. In the spring, right after opener, I would go out on the docks, and catch largemouth bass. I mostly fish for largemouth bass, but northern pike are very aggressive, and will usually hit the same baits used for bass. In the spring, the bass are up shallow on beds protecting their eggs. Northern Pike spawn even earlier. During the spawning for pike and bass, you can’t fish for them. Once it opens up to catch them, that’s when I go out for them. Once it heats up, and summer comes around, bass go for cover: logs, weeds, pencil weeds, rocks, docks, etc. Bass fishing is very productive off shorelines and docks. Once the lakes freeze up, I put my portable out and put tip ups out with minnows for pike. My favorite fishing is open water, spring and summer.
