Interview With Gloria

By: Lauren

  1. How long have you worked at SEHS?
Answer: 27 years.

  1. How much longer do you plan on being a teacher here?
Answer: At least 4 more years.

  1. What’s your favorite part of being a teacher here?
Answer: Definitely the kids because they are so fun.

  1. What’s the best memory of yours at SEHS?
Answer: Every year there is always something cool that happens. However, this year, Dig Pink day was my best memory, because I saw the caring and sensitivity in the children and kids.

  1. What kind of advice would you give to High School students?
Answer: Go to college and enjoy yourself. Don’t take too many classes your first semester, and just try to take in the beauty of it all. College is nothing like High School, and you realize that in college you actually have to study.

  1. Before working at SEHS, what did you do?
Answer: I used to teach Spanish at Minnesota State University.

  1. What made you want to teach History?
Answer: I was in a school convent and learned that History was more than buying a ticket. History is life for me.

  1. What was your favorite part of HS?
Answer: My favorite part of High School was the library and reading. I couldn’t go out because I was in a convent, and the only way I could leave was by going to the library and reading books. That was my only passing time.

  1. What was your favorite subject in HS?
Answer: History, and I LOVED Geometry!

  1. Who do you admire most?
Answer: My husband, Jimmy, whom I met through service.

Gloria came to the USA at age 17 because if she came at age 18, her mother wouldn’t be able to bring her into America. She would not have been able to afford to live on her own in America at that time. Gloria went to New York City and joined the Navy to learn how to speak English. Gloria thinks that students are the best thing. She feels that every student has their own story, and she loves watching them grow and develop to find their own interests.
