Miracle On Ice Anniversary By: Kyle D
On Sunday, it was the anniversary of the “Miracle on Ice” when the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team beat CCCP. The Americans were a major underdog. The CCCP players had speed, skill, and were well-developed. The Soviets had gotten the gold medal in the past 4 olympic games. Before this game, these two teams met in an exhibition game. The Soviets won 10-3. With the Soviets being the favored team, the USA team had to come ready. They had to be solid defensively and offensively. Throughout the game, Jim Craig, the USA goalie, was keeping them in it. After being tied 2-2 going into the second period, USA knew they had a chance at winning. Even though they were losing 3-2 after two periods, they battled back in the third. With around ten minutes left in regular time, the USA scored. This was the famous game winning goal, scored by Mike Eruzione.
