“Should I set my alarm for school tomorrow morning?”
“No, I’ve been waking up early lately anyway so what is the point?”
“Should I lock my car before I go into the store?”
“No, this is a small and safe town. Plus there is nothing valuable in there anyway.”
“Should I study for my math test tomorrow?”
“No, I will just make a cheat sheet and I’d rather watch Netflix anyway.”
These questions and answers are probably very common among many of us. These answers all have the same counter argument, “Why not?” Your streaks of bad luck can easily be outweighed by not being lazy and irrational.
“I’m late for school!”
Set your alarm.
“Someone tried stealing my car!”
Lock It.
“I failed my math test!”
Study.
There is not one reason not to do these simple things except utter laziness. These little things we can do that could make life so much easier on all of us are so simple to do, but we don’t. Life is a gift, do all that you can with it and never hold back. Use the decision making skills you have been learning over many years through learning from your mistakes. There is no such thing as bad luck, only poor decision making.
You’re driving on the back roads, driving to New Ulm. It’s late at night and you are going the speed limit and not doing anything wrong. You get a text from your friend and you look down. You are approaching an intersection and you don’t stop to look up, you are concluding the text to your friend when some imbecile who is driving home from a fun night out, drinking with friends. He is driving way above the speed limit and runs the stop sign. There’s a crash, then silence. This could have been avoided completely if you had just looked up from the phone and made the right decision. Granted, the other person made an unacceptable decision but you can not depend on others to make good decisions when you refuse to. Always think about every decision you make, live life to the fullest, and love the life you are given.
