Adding a shot clock to the game of basketball in high school could take away strategies of coaches to slow the ball down and match up to their opponents. On the other hand, it wouldn't allow a team to stall towards the end of a game, not allowing the other team to score. It has been shown that out of the hundreds of possessions a high school team plays each season, only a handful last longer than 35 seconds.
Having each state able to decide on the shot clock rule is being opposed because most say everyone should be playing the same game. Others say that the game is the same, with or without the shot clock. Some shot clock supporters say that by not having one, it eliminates defense from the game and turns it into a free throw competition. The opposing side pointed out that if a team doesn't like an opponent stalling, then it is up to them to stop it.
I would personally like adding a shot clock to the game in high school. There has been way too many cases that I have either watched or played in that have ended with a leading team stalling for two or more minutes and the only option for the losing team would be to foul, which normally just extends the lead even more.
