I always wondered why people looked at dance like it wasn’t a sport. I understand why people look at it like this. They look at dance like this because they see us at practice and we’re just messing around, but what they don’t see is our hard conditioning workouts before we actually start practicing on our dance routine. When it comes to conditioning, we do the first hour and a half running, doing ab exercises, and stretching all our muscles (arms and legs). This year we are doing a dance routine with our song choice Beautiful Now by Zedd. We spent our whole summer practicing and learning the moves to our routine. We’ve spent numerous hours making it the best we can so it looks amazing for the public and student body to see. When we perform, either on the field or in the gym, it’s sad knowing that on the field we hear more from the other side cheering for us then we do from our own side. In the gym we don’t get a lot of cheering, but when Mr. Nesvold is dancing with us in the gym we hear so much cheer and laughter from everyone watching. That is only because Mr. Nesvold is dancing with us, before he ever started dancing with us, people rarely cheered for us in the gym during the pep fest. It’s still sad hearing from people that dance isn’t a sport, but to us dancers it’s a sport and we deserve good credit and feedback from more students in our school, not just our parents.
