Homecoming Week by Holly H
Homecoming is all fun and games, but it actually takes a lot of hard work, time, and patience to make homecoming successful. As soon as the school year started, Sleepy Eye Student Council was already having 7 a.m. meetings to plan homecoming. Student Council is responsible for planning the entire homecoming week. This can get stressful because there is a lot to figure out, such as the dress up days, the activities during the week, and the entire lay out for the pep fest. Besides all of this, us juniors also had to plan the homecoming coronation skit. This also required lots of time and preparation. We decided on the theme of Super Heroes and went from there. After we had our characters picked and the skit wrote, we began practicing. Monday night of homecoming week, which was the day of coronation, came quick. We performed our skit besides the candidates and it ended with Jesus Montemayor and Emily Mack being named homecoming royalty. The rest of homecoming week was filled with crazy dress up days (the juniors with the most points), intense dodge ball games, and finally the day of the pep fest. We started off the morning with a walk with the elementary and came back to start the pep fest. It started out active with our dance competition; Jacob Berg showed off his amazing moves and won it for his grade. After lunch and advisory, we came back to the gym and started where we left off with the hula hoop contest. The eighth graders got to the championship and had to go against the staff; the staff ended up beating the eighth graders! Next up was the balloon stomp and the seniors took that one. The seniors also came out strong and won Name That Tune as well. The seventh graders won their first and final game: the Lip-Sync. The Student Council put a lot of work in preparing homecoming week, but it is rewarding to know that many students and teachers had an enjoyable week. :)
