John Lennon

By Brennon H

John Lennon was an English musician who rose to fame as a part of the rock-pop band, The Beatles. He is considered the most successful and critically-acclaimed popular band in history. With Paul McCartney, he was a part of one of the most praised songwriting duos of the 20th century. He was born and raised in Liverpool, England. In his teen years, he was involved with the skiffle craze, a time when people formed bands using mainly homemade instruments. At age 15 he formed a skiffle band, The Quarrymen, in which he met Paul McCartney and George Harrison.
The Beatles hit it big with their first single “Love Me Do”, which was number 17 on the British Charts. The Beatles released their first album Please Please Me, which was recorded in 10 hours on a day when Lennon was sick. The Beatles were praised for many years, but in 1970, the group disbanded. Lennon started his solo career. He had a few hits, but it was very short lived. He retired from making music in 1975. He released one more album in 1980. Three months later, Lennon was shot and killed at his apartment in New York.
