This year in competitive dance we have 12 girls that are on the team, the girls included are: Tyrah S, Kelsie D, Clarissa S, Evan B, Kalyn H, Millicent S, Megan H, Brienna B, Lexanna L, and me. Our student managers are Courtney E, and Keira T. This year we have 5 dance competitions, our first one is in New Ulm on December 5th. Our second one is at Bold on December 19th. Our third one is at YME on January 16th. Our fourth one is at GFW on January 22nd, and our fifth one is sections at Montevideo on February 6th. We usually go and watch state, which is on the 12th and the13th of February, but we also could possibly make it to state. We do two dance routines: Jazz and Kick. Our Kick song is “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen and our Jazz song is a remix of “Little Toy Guns” by Carrie Underwood. The first two weeks of practices are hard core conditioning. Our coach said she’s going to “kill” us and by “kill” she means we’re going to be doing extremely hard core conditioning workouts. When we are conditioning if we say “I can’t” our coach makes you run a lap, if we ask the coach what time practice is over or what gym we are in she will make not just you, but the entire team run. After our first two weeks of conditioning, we finally start doing techniques that we already know, but we go over them just so we can get better at them. After we are done learning techniques, we FINALLY get to learn our dance routines; we usually go as far as we can in our Kick song so we have it memorized, then we move to Jazz and do the same. When we have most of that memorized, we go back to Kick and finish it, then we work on it for a while. When it’s completely memorized we finish our Jazz routine. When both routines are memorized we start working on cleanliness for Kick such as: tight arms, toes pointed, kicks waist high, and not looking at others for what the next move is. For Jazz: smooth movement, and nothing tight. For both Kick and Jazz: GO FULL OUT. Our next step is go to competitions and perform.
