Missouri Turkey Hunting

By: Kyle D
Last weekend I went to Missouri to turkey hunt. I left on Friday after baseball practice and arrived at the hotel at midnight. Saturday morning we got up around five and headed out. While we were walking, a turkey hen flew up out of the trees. We hunted all day and saw nothing else. On Sunday morning, we got up earlier and went to some state land. The forecast was not good as it was supposed to rain all morning. Once we got to the area we were going to hunt, we heard gobbling in all directions. As we were walking, I heard a close gobble. We headed in the direction of the call. Around 6:30 the turkey flew down from it’s tree. The turkey landed in a field that was about 80 yards from where I was sitting. My uncle started to call, but it did not come any closer. After forty- five minutes of waiting, the turkey got spooked and ran into the woods. We hunted until one in the afternoon, but we did not get a turkey. Overall, the trip to Missouri was a great experience.
